En 1793, sus la còla de Montju?c, Méchain s'avisèt d'una diferéncia de 3" entre la mesura geodesica e la mesura astronomica de la longitud de Barcelona. Aquel escart (qu'en fach s'apreniá pas a una error de manipulacion, mai ai tecnicas de l'epòca) lo desvarièt mai que mai. La Guèrra Francoespanhòla l'empachèt de reprendre sa mission ; en 1799, ne rendèt còmpte en fraudant sei resultats : lo mètre serà tròp cort de 0,2 mm ; la ? frauda ? serà descubèrta per Delambre ren qu'en 1806, l'an que resseguirà l'ensemble dei resultats au moment de la redaccion de Basa dau sistèma metric.
En 1889, lo Burèu Internacionau dei Pes e Mesuras tornèt definir lo mètre coma la distància entre dos ponchs sus una barra d'un aliatge de platin e d'iridi. Aquela barra se consèrva encara a Sèvres, en Fran?a.
L'adopcion de la definicion modèrna
modificarEn 1960, gràcias a l'arribada dei lasèrs, l'11ena Conferéncia Generala dei Pes e Mesuras (CGPM) definís lo mètre coma 1 650 765,73 longors d'onda d'una radiacion aranjada emessa per l'isotòp 86 dau cripton.
Enfin la conferéncia de 1983 se fonda sus la lutz e tòrna definir lo mètre coma la distància percorreguda per la lutz dins lo vuege en 1/299 792 458 s. Estent que la velocitat de la lutz dins lo vuege es una constanta fondamentala de la fisica (segon la teoria de la relativitat), es una definicion universala e qu'es de bòn transmetre. Subretot, es una distància que se mesura pus aisadament que la distància entre dos ponchs, car la segonda es l'unitat mielhs coneguda de l'SI.
